# 10-Ton Softened Pure Water Equipment Process

# I. Overview The 10-ton softened pure water equipment is a professional water treatment system capable of converting raw water into softened pure water. It is widely used in industrial production, pharmaceuticals, food processing, and other fields with high water quality requirements. The process integrates multiple advanced water treatment technologies aimed at removing hardness ions and other impurities from water to meet strict production and usage standards.

## II. Raw Water Pretreatment

### (I) Raw Water Inlet Raw water enters the softened pure water equipment through pipelines. The source of raw water can be municipal supply, well water, or other natural water sources. An inlet valve is typically installed at the entry point to control water flow, and a screen or coarse filter is equipped to preliminarily remove larger suspended particles such as sediment and rust, protecting subsequent equipment.

## (II) Multi-Media Filtration The raw water then enters the multi-media filter, a critical step in the pretreatment process. The multi-media filter is filled with filter media of varying particle sizes, generally including quartz sand and anthracite. Quartz sand is primarily used to remove larger impurities, while anthracite is more effective at trapping smaller particles. Through the synergistic action of multiple layers of filter media, most suspended solids, colloids, and some organic matter in the water are effectively removed, reducing water turbidity. After operating for a period, the multi-media filter will develop a pressure differential due to accumulated impurities. When the pressure differential reaches a certain value, backwashing is required to restore filtration performance.

### (III) Activated Carbon Filtration After multi-media filtration, the water enters the activated carbon filter. Activated carbon has a developed pore structure and a large specific surface area, enabling it to adsorb residual chlorine, organic matter, odors, and some heavy metal ions in the water. This step is crucial for protecting key components such as ion exchange resins and reverse osmosis membranes, as residual chlorine can oxidize and degrade their performance. The activated carbon filter also requires periodic replacement of activated carbon to ensure adsorption efficiency.

## III. Softening

## (I) Ion Exchange Softening Pretreated water enters the ion exchanger for softening treatment, which is the core step in reducing water hardness. The ion exchanger is filled with ion exchange resin, typically strong acid cation exchange resin. As water passes through the ion exchange resin, calcium, magnesium, and other hardness ions in the water exchange with sodium ions on the resin. This results in calcium and magnesium ions being adsorbed onto the resin while sodium ions enter the water, thereby achieving water softening.

## (II) Softening Process Monitoring During the softening process, it is necessary to monitor water hardness, flow rate, and the working status of the ion exchange resin in real time. Online hardness monitors can provide timely feedback on softening effectiveness. When the hardness of softened water exceeds the set value, it may indicate that the ion exchange resin is nearing saturation and requires regeneration. Simultaneously, flow monitoring ensures that water has adequate residence time in the ion exchanger to guarantee thorough softening.

### (III) Resin Regeneration When the ion exchange resin becomes saturated with adsorbed hardness ions, regeneration is required. The regeneration process typically uses a sodium chloride solution as the regenerant. First, backwashing is performed by introducing water from the bottom to loosen the resin bed, removing impurities and broken resin particles between the resin granules, and discharging them from the top. Then, the prepared sodium chloride regenerant is passed through the ion exchanger at a specific flow rate, allowing sodium ions in the regenerant to replace the adsorbed calcium and magnesium ions on the resin, restoring its exchange capacity. Finally, forward washing is conducted using clean water to rinse the ion exchanger, removing residual regenerant and displaced ions until the effluent meets the required standards.

;## IV. Pure Water Preparation

### (I) Reverse Osmosis Treatment Softened water enters the reverse osmosis system, which is a critical step in pure water preparation. Reverse osmosis membranes are highly selective, allowing only water molecules to pass through under pressure while retaining almost all dissolved salts, colloids, microorganisms, and other impurities. The reverse osmosis system is typically equipped with a high-pressure pump to provide sufficient pressure for water to pass through the membrane. Additionally, to protect the reverse osmosis membrane, a precision filter is installed upstream to further remove any remaining fine particles in the water.

(II) Post-Treatment The pure water obtained after reverse osmosis treatment may require additional post-treatment steps, such as ultraviolet sterilization or ultrafiltration, to further eliminate any residual microorganisms and extremely fine impurities, ensuring the pure water quality fully complies with relevant standards.

## V. Process Control and Automation The entire 10-ton softened pure water equipment process is automated through an advanced control system. The control system can automatically adjust parameters such as water flow rate, pressure, and regeneration time based on set values, ensuring stable and efficient operation of the equipment. It also monitors the equipment's operational status in real time and provides fault alarms, enabling operators to address issues promptly.

## VI. Conclusion The 10-ton softened pure water equipment process is a complex and sophisticated system. Through the seamless coordination of each stage, it can stably and efficiently produce high-quality softened pure water, meeting the stringent water quality requirements of various industries and providing reliable water resource assurance for production and daily life.
